February Windsurfing was coined as a name. Bert Salisbury coined this term after it was discovered that the name "SK8" was already taken. This name was the inspiration for naming the board The Windsurfer. Diane's parents Verda and George Pardue with a Baja Board, predecessor to the name windsurfer. |
September Bert Salisbury purchased several boards and was the first (unofficial) dealer. Hoyle and Diane had been selling a few boards to friends, but now they needed to find a way to fill the first order of the first unofficial Windsurfer dealer/enthusiast. Hoyle resigned as Vice President at Data Systems Continental, a data processing software company, to focus on windsurfing. October Hoyle and Diane displayed their Boards at the Los Angeles Boat Show. Stan Miller of Stan Miller Yachts gave them a part of his floor display space, because he was interested in the boat. He also thought it would add some glamour to his floor display. Miller later became a Windsurfer dealer. |

Hoyle and Diane commissioned Malibu Yacht Club member Phil Wilson and his wife Buoy to make a promotional film to play at boat shows. Hoyle and Diane displayed their boards at the Long Beach Boat Show. Plans to make a production board are developed. By the end of 1969, 22 Boards had been made. |
